It is an osmotic laxative that works by pulling water into the bowel to soften stool and making it easier to pass .Lactulose is a colonic acidifier that works by decreasing the amount of ammonia in the blood. It is a man-made non-absorbable sugar solution.
1 Syrup BID/ BD (two times a day) or as directed by your physician
Per oral (PO)
Lactulose is used in the treatment of constipation and hepatic encephalopathy.
Gas, bloating, burping, stomach rumbling/pain, nausea, and cramps may occur. Serious side effects includes diarrhea, vomiting, muscle cramps/weakness, irregular heartbeat, mental/mood changes, seizures.
