Medicine Generic: Hydrocortisone
Hydrocortisone belongs to a class of drugs called glucocorticoids or adrenocorticoids. It is a steroid hormone that blocks certain proteins in your body. It works to decrease swelling and stop your immune system from reacting to different triggers. It also affects how your body uses and stores carbohydrates, proteins, and fats and how your body balances water and electrolytes.
1 Ointment BID/ BD (two times a day) or as directed by your physician
P-A-A (apply locally)
It is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (e.g., insect bites, poison oak/ivy, eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash, itching of the outer female genitals, anal itching). Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions. It is also used to treat adrenocortical deficiency, swelling and inflammation, and to slow down your immune system.
It may cause headache, muscle weakness, skin problems such as acne or thin, shiny skin.
