FEX 120

Fexofenadine hydrochloride is a non-drowsy antihistamine used to treat allergy symptoms and skin hives.
Uses and How It Works
Allergies: Treats seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), including sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and itchy throat.
Hives: Relieves chronic idiopathic urticaria (long-term skin itching and hives).

Mechanism: Blocks peripheral H1 histamine receptors to stop histamine from causing allergic reactions. It does not easily enter the brain, making it much less sedating than older antihistamines.

Dosage and Strengths
Available Strengths: Commonly sold in 30 mg, 60 mg, 120 mg, and 180 mg tablets (often under the brand name Allegra).
Adults and Children 12+: Usually 120 mg or 180 mg once daily, or 60 mg twice daily.
Children 6 to 11: Usually 30 mg twice daily.
Timing: Starts working within 1 hour and lasts for 24 hours

Important Taking Instructions
Water Only: Take tablets with plain water.
Avoid fruit juices like grapefruit, orange, or apple juice, as they lower how well the body absorbs the medicine.

Avoid Antacids: Do not take aluminum or magnesium antacids within 15 to 30 minutes of your dose.
Disintegrating Tablets: Place on the tongue with dry hands to dissolve without chewing, ideally on an empty stomach.

Side Effects and Precautions
Common Effects: Headache, dizziness, nausea, or mild tiredness.
Precautions: Avoid alcohol as it can increase sleepiness.
Consult a doctor before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, or treating children under 4 years.
